St John’s Wort is a member of the Clusiaceae family. It originated in Europe but today is found throughout much of the world.  It grows below 5000’ elevation in disturbed areas roadsides, fields, meadows and is a common landscaping plant whose berries are frequently found in floral arrangements. Most folks hear about St John’s Wort as an herbal supplement for various anxiety and depression issues but Twin Mountain Botanicals only uses oil infused with St John’s Wort as an element in its BBG Skin Salve and Refresh! St John’s Wort is naturally soothing; stimulates circulation of oxygenated blood to damaged skin cells, has plentiful concentrations of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antimicrobial compounds/properties.  Externally it has shown to be beneficial for easing pain in joints and muscles, and reduce bruising, burns, bites and other skin ailments.
